Are you owner or a user of Microsoft Smartphone cellphone? If yes look here to learn how to use your phone more effectively!
1. Try to keep at least 1.5mb of available storage at all times. This will leave plenty of space for Smartphone to operate optimally. (contributed by "jmjarvis")
2. Turn off keypad sounds: They may sound good but I´ve certainly noticed an improvement in turning these off. (contributed by "jmjarvis")
3. Synchronise less email: Choose to sync only 3 days (or even 1 day) of email and choose to sync only 5k of the email. Doing this will get you most emails on to your phone. The options can be set in Active Sync on your phone under Options, Inbox (You´ll be amazed how much space this can save) (contributed by "jmjarvis")
4. Reducing the multipress timeout This is the amount of time it takes Smartphone to wait between key presses, for example when you´re typing a text message or email. Reduce this down to 1/2 second in Settings, Accessibility (contributed by "jmjarvis")
5. Put your own name on your home screen A simple way to identify your phone is to edit the Normal profile and rename it to your name. Press the power button softly once and you will see a list of profiles. Scroll down to Normal, click on the right soft key and choose Edit. Now simply change the name from Normal to your name or alias. When you´re done, you´ll notice this is now on your home screen (depending on the layout you´re using) (contributed by "jmjarvis")
6. to lock keypad quickly, so that display will not be switching on in your pocket and battery will be saved, just press RED BUTTON (end call button) and hold it down for some time; in this way you don´t have to use quick-menu that appears when you press shortly the power off button.
7. during phone call: if you wish to switch to speaker phone (so that you could use your hands for something else than holding the phone) press and hold down the GREEN BUTTON (start call button)
8. general hint: when navigating menus of the phone use numbers of keypad (0,1,2,..,9) instead of cursor keys and action key - in this way you can navigate smartphone menu faster (numbers are visible on the left side of each menu position)
9. general hint: in smartphone application in menus use numbers of keypad (0,1,2,..,9) instead of cursor keys and action key - usually inside of smartphone applications numbers are NOT visible on the left side of each menu position, but still you can use numbers as shortcuts to each menu position
10. use task manager to kill applications running in background to make your phone faster (there is also free task manager available so you don´t need to buy it); kill applications running in background that you don´t use can also improve your battery life because some of smarpthone appplicatoin behave badly and are sucking battery through unnecessary timers running
11. buy yourself big memory card: use SD standard because it is faster than MMC and buy 256MB because it is the most price effective size nowadays
12. keeping upgrading your smartphone to the latest firmware (software embedded in the phone): generally the process is easy and relies on downloading file of size about 10 MB from Internet to your PC, connecting your smartphone to PC over USB and upgrading; upgrades usually give faster phones, some bugs removed and sometimes new applications provided by the operator or vendor (for example better picture editing/taking application or some utilities); consider backing up your data before upgrading
13. if your phone is locked by the operator then software unlock it; but first look around for freeware unlocked software to estimate if you really will need unlocking, if it is worth it - maybe existing signed applications available at www.handango.com will be enough for you (either fully usable in trial version or maybe you want to pay a little to get quality software for your smartphone); before trying to unlocking the dirty way (editing of some files and hard reseting and tricky copying) check out if your operator doesn´t provide some standard unlocking mechanism without any dirty trick (like Orange actually is)
14. If the phone is wet by something other than water ... i.e. something sticky, then ideally needs cleaning, so not to have sticky residue everywhere - ideally this involves taking phone apart and washing with distilled water. (removing anything that won´t like water at all - depending on components, this could be mic, speakers ...) (contributed by "Tim Scott")
15. if you smartphone gets wet by water-like liquid (for example coca cola spilled on it) don´t despair but act QUICKLY: just remove the battery and dry it for a while, possibly with use of heater and/or ventilator; after drying check out if all keys are working and if not then remove the battery again and keep drying it;
16. if you are working at computer and need both hands remember, that apart from speaker phone mode mentioned in point
